Progress for Princeton.
A Future Worth Building.
A Community Worth Preserving.
Meet Sumbel
I was born in Greenville, TX, and grew up in Rockwall, TX, where I graduated from Rockwall High School. I completed my B.A. at SMU and completed an M.S. with a focus in Public Administration, Political Science and Journalism from UNT. I got married to my husband Vick, and I became the bonus mom to a 13 year old son who attends Southard Middle School. We were then blessed with a baby girl last September. Princeton is special to us for so many reasons, including that this is where we were finally able to pursue the American Dream of owning a home.
As one of the first elected members of the Collin Central Appraisal District Board of Directors, I’ve worked to oversee responsible budgeting, improve efficiency, and ensure accountability while serving the residents and entities of Collin County, while working with the state, the county, cities (including Princeton), school districts, special districts such as MUDs, and the Collin Colleges. The CCAD oversees over one million properties and parcels throughout the county, and part of my role is overseeing the budget of over $30 million. I’ve worked to integrate suggestions received by residents to improve the CCAD’s performance.
In addition to my role at the CCAD, I’ve also served on Princeton’s Home Rule Charter Committee, giving me firsthand experience with the policies and decisions that help shape our city’s future.
Professionally, I’ve spent my career working in government, nonprofit leadership, and community engagement, bringing people together to solve problems and build lasting partnerships. Those experiences have taught me that good government starts with listening, planning ahead, and putting people first.I know where the gaps in government bureaucracy exist and how to help bring them together to better serve the community.
I'm a graduate of various leadership training institutions with a focus on local government, including Leadership Plano, and the New Leaders Council Dallas. I am a former Rotary Member, and I currently volunteer for Meals on Wheels Collin County. I help organize meetups for families with young children in my neighborhood. I'm also a small business owner, and I understand the pressures of trying to run a household, a family, a business, in today's environment here in Princeton.
Why I'm Running
It is important to have representation on City Council, and I represent a growing number of Princetonians- young families, purchasing their first home, raising small children, and putting all their dreams and savings into Princeton, hoping and praying for progress, safety, and community.
Princeton is at a defining moment.
Every month our city grows, bringing new families, new businesses, and new opportunities. That growth is exciting, but it must be managed thoughtfully. The choices we make today will shape Princeton for decades to come.
I’m running for City Council because I believe we can embrace growth while protecting the character of the community we love. I want to help ensure that every decision reflects long-term planning, fiscal responsibility, transparency, and a commitment to serving residents first.
It is impossible to ignore the lack of trust some Princeton residents feel towards their local government. I'd be honored to have the opportunity to help rebuild that trust and get us on the right track- together. It isn't going to happen overnight- but we cannot give into cynicism.
I come from a background in government and public administration and local governance is a passion of mine. And with that background, I know that we could be doing better as a City Council.
My campaign is about building a Princeton where longtime residents and new neighbors alike can thrive, where growth strengthens our community instead of changing what makes it special, and where every resident has confidence that City Hall is working for them. Where no one is left behind.
Together, we can build a future that honors Princeton’s past while preparing for its tomorrow.
